Sony MZ-N707 Net MD Walkman Player/Recorder (Blue)

Sony MZ-N707 Net MD Walkman Player/Recorder (Blue) Review

I have owned this model for 2 years.br /br /I have mostly used it for self recording voice lessons, practice and also recording a live ensemble through a mixer. The sound quality is excellent both ways and there is good sound separation with a bi directional mike.br /br /The only major problem was the digital rights management which meant I could not transfer self recorded material to my computer using their software, which is a crock.br /br /My solution was to use line in and bypass the software and record direct to the computer in real time. I used creative recorder supplied with my Dell. I only used the Sony software supplied to delete unless unnecessary tracks prior to recording. br /br /The files are huge so it is necessary to convert to a usable format. For this, I use Cool Edit 2000 available at www.syntrillium.com. br /br /This is a top notch audio editing software, which can amplify, reduce, adjust and remove or reduce any glitches, dead time etc., and separate your large audio file into single tracks, which may be saved as mp3 files to burn to cd. You can then delete the original audio file to save space. br /br /I have also used the player to listen to mp3s on long trips, and it is perfectly fine, although I would never buy it just for that reason. You can check mp3s in and out of your computer. It is easy. br /br /For a microphone, I do recommend the Sony ECM-DS70P stereo microphone. With its longer cord you should not pick up the initial whirr of the machine which starts about 5 secs after you start recording and lasts for 2 seconds. This an excellent microphone, with good bidirectional separation and gives genuine stereo separation even though L and R Mic are close together.br /br /I did recently lose my recorder so now I am thinking of replacing or upgrading to the Sony MZ-NHF 700 or 800, or the MZ-NH1.

Great Prodjuct and delivery - G. Bovenzi -
Condition of the product was very good. However I did not receive the digital connection cable or the headphones the the packaging said should be included.

A Wonderful Device - Henry J. Rybaczewski - Toledo, Ohio United States
I have owned this product for eight years now. I use it mostly in my car to listen to what I want to hear rather than what the radio stations are forcing me hear. I am a professional musician and am highly critical of my choirs as well as any recordings - pop, classical, folk, etc. Having capability to record via a microphone, the live recordings are supurb. Copies of CDs, records, tapes are near CD quality at normal speed, very good at LP2 and not all that bad at LP4 - especially if you're just listening to music while driving. I use this player daily and have yet to have a single problem with it. I have even purchased an additional 5 of these to give as gifts over the years. And now, with most auto makers including an input for mp3/ipod players, you don't need to use a cassette adapter or radio tramsitter to use this player in your car via the radio.br /br /I am friends with people in Eurpoe where minidiscs are very popular. Why they never quite caught on here is beyond me. I hope Sony will continue to make and support the minidisc system.

Sony MZ-NH900 Hi-MD MiniDisc Walkman

Sony MZ-NH900 Hi-MD MiniDisc Walkman Review

I have owned this MZ-NH900 for about a week and I have been quite impressed with it since day one.br /br /I purchased this model after much research both here and on other websites. There were a lot of negative reviews however most of them pertain to SonicStage software that I had already decided I would not be using. As someone else stated this is not an MP3 player it is a MiniDisc player and there are major differences. If you have wav files get an MP3 player. If you have CD's that you want to be MUCH more poratable then buy an MD!br /br /I had a Sharp MD player for 5 years and have probably about 25-40 74 minute discs. I just replaced 6 or 7 of those old recorded discs with ONE due to the HI-LP transfer that is available with the "MD Simple Burner". I recorded 11 CD's on one 74 minute disc. I decided on HI-LP because the player runs longer according to the manual in this mode.br /br /Someone complained about the lack of "bass boost" on MD's. There is more to life than Bass. This player has 4 options to choose from in the Surround Sound module. Take a look, fool around a bit you'll be amazed! I am loving the "Club" setting, it's as if you are in a Jazz Club listening to a live performance. There is also Studio, Live and Arena settings in the Surround Sound module. There is also a 6 band Graphic Equalizer and there are 4 pre-sets for:br /Heavy metalbr /Popsbr /Jazzbr /Uniquebr /And there are 2 Custom settings available so you can make your own settings. Read the manual it only takes a few moments to figure it out and play around. br /br /I'll admit that I am normally not a manual reader but with all this thing can do you MUST read the manual to learn how to use it. If they put buttons on the remote and player to do all there is to do you'd have a box with nothing but buttons all over it.br /br /Someone complained about the controls on the remote being "counter intuitive". Turning the knob down to increase volume, or vise a versa... Read the manual... you can change that. Also the clip on the remote is reversable so that would be an even easier fix.br /br /Someone complained about the player beeping when paused. Again, read the manual... you can turn that off.br /br /The thing I'm loving about it is that I am going to be able to re-record all of my CD's and go from a drawer full of MD's in about 10 or 12 boxes to probably one box with 6 discs in it. And when I'm flying I won't have to pick and choose only a couple of discs to take along because with about 12 CD's on one disc a box of 6 means I've got 72 CD's at my fingertips.br /br /Another thing I love about this model as opposed to the old Sharp that I owned is that the Album, Artist and Track information transfers across from the CD to the MD right along with the music when using the MD Simple Burner. Does THAT ever save time!!! I did noice one CD where a track was mispelled so I changed it. It's quite simple just wait till it's done recording and double click on the name and make the necessary change and hit enter and you've just edited the track name. Also there were a couple of CD's that I transferred and the artist info said "Various" because it's either a sound track or a compilation disc. Being one who can be a bit "anal" at times again I waited till it got finished transferring and double clicked on "various" and typed in the actual artist's name. br /br /br /br /br /

Great recorder - David A. Edwards -
Having "been into" Mini-disk since it's onset, years ago, br /I still have the org "portable" recorder. still use it some.br /br /Anyway, I am very, very happy with the 900 Hi-md. it does so much, I am very pleased with it. the only thing I WISH it had that the old units do, is an "instant track mark" button/ switch on the unit. It would make incerting track marks sooooooo much eaiser. The digital pitch control makes it a great music study recorder. If you have ever used a recorder to study music, you'll LOVE the nearly unlimited space quality of the sound. the stereo make repeated lisening much more joyfull easier on the ears, esp when you are trying to LEARN a piece.br /Aside from the track mark, the fact with hi-sp you can get over 7 hours of QUALITY audio on ONE disk.... It's amazing... Just goto Eruope, Japan, etc... Minidisk is all over.. You can got to a "7-11" find mini-disks...

Sony MZ-DN430PSWHI Psyc MiniDisc Network Walkman (White) Review

This thing really is great. It is true that you can get 50hrs. of use off of one AA battery. I have had this MD player for two years and I love it! It is just a rock solid machine; that's all there is to it. The discs are great too. they are small, lite and easy to carry. They are pretty cheep(.50 app.) too, considering that they hold five hours of tones. The only thing about them is that you can't find them in stores, but you can get them on Amazon.com. It is not an ipod, but, in some ways I thank it is better. For one thing, it is SOOOO much cheaper, and frankly, it's more reliable than an ipod because there's not as much that can go wrong. It's not as sophisticated as an ipod. Though it's not quite as small and portable as an ipod, it really does have some advantages over it, I think. I am sorry that MD players never realy caught on, because they are realy cool. I wish more people knew about them. So, if your looking at this, GET ONE! You can afford it and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Sony MDCASE3 Carrying Case for Net MiniDisc Walkman(R) Recorders

Sony MDCASE3 Carrying Case for Net MiniDisc Walkman(R) Recorders Review

After reading all the negative reviews, I was extremely hesitant about getting the Sony MDCASE3. I'm glad I took the risk because it performs exactly as I had hoped.pRemember, this is an armband case. What that means to me is that it's practical for taking it to the gym, but not as good for other purposes.p- The velcro band itself is adjustable and fits around my arms just fine. I ran a couple of miles with it and it did not slide up and down my arm like the others have said. Maybe their arms are petite? I'm no Hulk but it works for me. I could see it possibly starting to slide a little once you start sweating, but the fabric on the inner side of the band is made of similar material/constitution as tennis headbands, so it should absorb moisture.p- The pocket where you place your MiniDisc is large enough to fit your NetMD player. It even fits an older model MD that I own. On the lid portion of the case, there's a webbed pocket for an extra MD. My MD's hold 160 minutes of music and I don't forsee using it to hold a spare disc. I do however, like to put the key to my locker and gym ID card in there.p- There is an open slit on one side of the case for you to run your headphones through. But unless you have a remote for your MD, you won't be able to efficiently control any of your MD's functions. One bummer is that the cord length might interfere with your workout, but I remedied that quickly by wrapping the extra cord around the case, THEN closing the lid over it. Problem solved.p- The dark gray color of the case looks great to me. I don't think anyone will mistake me for a hospital patient, as one reviewer wrote.pFor the price Amazon is charging, this case is well worth the price. Now I can enjoy listening to my own music while I'm working out at the gym and it makes SUCH a difference for my motivation and enjoyment.

Sony MZ-B100 MiniDisc Business Recorder

Sony MZ-B100 MiniDisc Business Recorder Review

Every positive comment I've read about this machine is true. I liked mine so much I ended up buying three (when they were available.) I use one in my studio, take one with me to classes to record lectures (I'm 62 and have gone back to university.) I gave the third to a dear friend who is a fellow retired broadcaster living in Amsterdam who does a show on the internet DFM network Sunday afternoons and frequently includes stuff she has recorded into her mix. (Thunderstorms are great with mega bass turned on.) What nobody seems to mention is that there is a port on the top of the machine for one of Sony's transformer power supplies, which saves a lot on batteries. The transformers are good with 115-220 V at 60 50 Hz respectively, which means you can take the MZ-B100 just about anywhere in Europe or North America and not waste batteries except on remote locations. Sony's transformer has fold-in U.S. flat blade connectors to mains, but Magellan or AAA can fix you up with a converter plug for a nominal charge. Electronic editing is a cinch as you define edit points using the "mark" button. that assigns the track a number, which can then be moved to almost any other place also so marked. The first time I saw one of these machines was a photograph of Terry Anderson's workspace in Iraq on assignment from the BBC. I am told that when these MZ-B100's were released they cost in excess of 0. They are a bargain at more than that IF YOU CAN FIND ONE. I have Uher and Studer equipment that can't come close to quality per ounce that the MZ-B100 can deliver. The blank discs can be used "one million times" says Sony, without any noticeble loss of quality. I am a 40 year broadcast veteran, both "talent" and engineer, and if you told someone you could pack all of these features (read the manual, there's a link elsewhere in this product listing) in 1965 I'd have laughed at you while seriously questioning your sanity. If you can find one listed here or elsewhere BUY IT ! IPOD SCHMIPOD, this is the genuine breakthrough. There is also an optical digital input, which means you can virtually clone CD's if your CD machine has an optical output.(It's usually locatable by the little squareish plug in the back which protects the port when not in use.) I found the connecting digital cable and transformer on eBay. Good as the built in stereo mikes are, an expensive mike with a fabricated stereo mini plug to XLR connector does a fantastic job. The mic input also feeds phantom power to condenser mikes. All in all a little miracle of design and practicality.

Sony MZ-NF610 High Speed Net MD Walkman Recorder

Sony MZ-NF610 High Speed Net MD Walkman Recorder Review

I bought this little guy 2 years ago right in the heart of the MP3 player craze. Everyone I knew had an ipod or some alternative, which they paid 0-0 dollars for. I did a little research and had always been curious about this technology since I had seen it in the mid-90's. After price and review comparisons, I picked up the Net-MD 610... and boy am I happy. br /br /A friend warned me when I bought it telling me that he was done with anything that played an external media source (discs) because they will always skip. But after over 2 years and having dropped it several times. Once recently at the gym where it skidded off the treadmill and onto the floor several feet away, not only did it not skip, but it kept playing. The various compression formats this player has available to it makes it able to hold up to and over 5 hours of music. All for less than 0. I say thats pretty darned good. br /br /My only regret is that I bought this just before the Hi-MD format came out which made it able to nearly double its capacity... but I'm very pleased and still haven't bought an MP3 player. So if you are thinking about a player, check it out. You get a FM/TV tuner with external recording available. (Record directly from CD or radio) Which my girlfriend loves. Also the discs are cheap, about for 5. Which ups your capacity for very very cheap. And they can be burned an infinite number of times, rearranged in their queue, and have multiple or single songs deleted. It acts like an MP3 player inside a small little disc. Check out this guy before blindly buying into an MP3 player. It might not be for you, but maybe it will.

The unit's SonicStage Jukebox software stores and manages digital music files, custom playlists, and music transfers, and bookmarking lets you program favorite songs in real time during playback. The MZ-NF610 offers high-speed transfer from a PC via a direct USB connection (up to 32x speed in LP4 mode) and can record more than five hours of music on one 80-minute minidisc (using LP4 mode). It also uses Sony's skip-free G-Protection technology, which eliminates or reduces skipping during many active uses. It plays back ATRAC3 files and supports multiple Internet audio formats, including MP3, WMA, and WAV. p The Easy Skip group-folder function helps organize songs into albums or groups. It also has a feature called Music Marker, which lets you "tag" music during playback. Once the device is reconnected to a PC, MoodLogic retrieves the marks, connects you to the Musiclub Web site, and provides information about the song and artist and links to download new tracks, purchase CDs, or discover similar artists. I liked the idea of CD like storage so I bought the MD recorder.., but this unit just broke within 6 months of very light use. I would stay away from Sony in the future.

Walkman is like the Silver Model, Comes with a radio. and High Speed - Adam Ebel - Virginia Beach, VA
This Walkman is much better and good features, except it does not record br /from the radio. This recorder is just like the MZ-NF510 CK that comes with a car kit. One thing different about it that it has a radio on the remote control. The radio works good, but the problem is that you cannot hear the sound better than if you connected to another radio source while recording, the volume control is on the remote control for the radio. Another thing about this model, is that it has high speed recording which is good for Sonic Stage users who make a lot of mini discs and needs the power supply, instead of just the batteries. This walkman would be a great peripheral device for making unlimited amounts of mini disc compilations. There is no microphone input so you would need a mic mixer to do live performances or home recordings to the line input. br /br /Reception : The radio however is ok, the AM reception is poor and FM and TV (well no TV signals after 6/12/2009) is mediocre. This one is good br /for just local FM station listening, but like I said you cannot recordbr /your favorite radio music programs. The weather radio reception is br /poor. br /br /
