Sony MZ-NHF800 Hi-MD Minidisc Walkman Portable Music Player Review
Many of the reviews of this machine contain old or incorrect information. There is a WAV converion tool at this point, and you can burn CD's that will play on any CDR compatiable player right out of sonicstage. I have done this, and I have recorded live music and burned CD's, and recorded Cassette tapes, and burned CD's. It's all there on Sonicstage 2.3. br /br /Good:br /1. You can do all the things mentioned above. br /2. Huge amount of space on a disc. I recorded old radio programs onto a HI-MD disc at 48bps, and got the claimed 45 hours (or close to it) on the one little disc. No good for music (at that rate-music sounds great at 132 bps and above), but great for voice. br /3. The machine has a mic input for live recordings. Sounds pretty good at higher sample rates. br /4. The machine can be used as a data drive like a memory stick. Just don't fire up Sonicstage and go to MY COMPUTER. Very easy to use. br /5. The Sony Music store is OK, and I enjoyed the five free downloads.br /br /Bad:br /1. The build quality seems not that great (this is where the machine loses the star). The little metal clasp that "snaps" the two parts together seems very light (but I notice this same clasp is on a MD I have used for two years with no problems).br /2. The disks are hard to get (but that is changing), and a little expensive (but not bad for the capacity).br /3. Doesn't make me want an ipod any less.

AFTER ALMOST 4 YEARS WOULD NOT TRADE FOR ANY I-POD - JON STRICKLAND - Smithfield, NC United States
The Sony MZ-NHF800 Hi-MD Minidisc Walkman is an awesome machine that is equipped with AM/FM/TV/Weatherband radio controls. With the 1 GB minidiscs and the minidisc-compatible technology that has been created since 2004, when I purchased this item, there is so much that you can do with this recorder that it is staggering!br /br /It is amazing how this player, when combined with the right gear, can access MP3s and WAV files, and it does it in ways that I don't think that the Ipod can. For those who have thought of giving up on MD, I say don't! Especially the HI-MD!br /br /There are companies that have come out with driver updates and products that have made this particular product compatible even with Windows Vista. Among them are Xitel and M-Audio.br /br /I am excited about seeing what more I can continue to do with this recorder, whether on the computer or on the field! Forgive the exclamations, but I am not hamming all this up.
Problems galore.... - B. WRIGHT -
I bought this product a little over a year ago, and was happy with it for a while. Then it malfunctioned. Sony duly replaced the unit. The unit went unused for a while and then once i began to use it for a while lo and behold, it malfunctioned again in exactly the same manner. As the unit is out of warranty and I will have to pay for the repair, I am now looking at taking my money elsewhere...
